Van Hise is highly influenced by New Age ideas. She is the author of Quantum Shaman, which she describes as being influenced by Carlos Castaneda, and defines quantum shamanism as “Simply this: through an understanding of quantum energy, we empower ourselves to awaken our shamanic abilities.”

She also writes non-Trek material under at least eleven or twelve other aliases.
