In 1999, Deep Space Nine aired “What You Leave Behind.” This extraordinary finale created a dilemma for those publishing licensed stories based on Benjamin Sisko’s crew: how to continue chronicling the adventures of the show’s cast when, by story’s end, four of its most popular characters—Sisko, Odo, Worf, and Miles O’Brien—were no longer on the station. For Pocket Books, that meant launching a new era of Deep Space Nine novels, adding new characters, and establishing a new path for the remaining inhabitants.

WildStorm Comics took part in the relaunch, releasing the four-part N-Vector by K.W. Jeter, Toby Cypress, Jason Martin, and Mark Irwin. Worf has moved to Qo’noS as an ambassador to the Empire; Nog, now a lieutenant junior grade, is DS9′s acting security chief; and Julian Bashir and Ezri Dax have begun a romantic relationship. O’Brien, meanwhile, has returned to Earth to teach—where he’s suddenly arrested for sabotage. This volume also collects rare comic strips originally presented in various children’s toys, fast-food packaging, and magazine advertisements—plus, artist audition panels from the classic newspaper strips.
